The Rain Tower Vertical Hydroponic System

I was looking for a way to grow vertical using hydroponics and after seeing some larger and expensive aeroponic units I came up with what I call the rain tower.  I used a 5 gallon bucket and lid from the local hydroponics store.  The main tower is 5" x 5" PVC fence post and there is 3" PVC pipe that holds the net pots diagonally into the tower,  The pump is an ECO 264 pump on a timer that turns on every 15 minutes and runs for 15 minutes.  The most difficult part of this whole unit was getting the right shape for the net pot holes in the tower.  I created templates and a video with step by step directions which in this article:

Check it out!

This will be my next build for sure!  So much better then other towers I've seen or tried!

This one really inspired me to make one for my own.i have been looking at this design and others that have modified it. looks great.

i have some questions though.do all the netpots get equall amount of nutrient supply? it seems that the upper netpots would block the supply to the lower netpots.

here is the design that i am thinking.

i will be using a round pvc pipe as square ones are not available here.

and also instead of building netpots holders and netpots i am planning to use plastic cups with drilled holes.as mike shows in his  video

another question i have about the nutrient solution is do i have to completely replace it in one or two weeks or do i have to keep topping it up as and when needed (when the ph level changes or much of it have evaporated)

thanks again for putting up the design online it surely will help many people.

All the net pots in the tower will get plenty of water all the way down.  Water gets spread everywhere in the tower and the upper ones don't block the bottom ones at all.  As for using the plastic cups, they will work but your plants will do way better with net cups.  Here's a video that shows exactly what happens:

I just keep topping of the bucket.  That many plants really eat up a lot of nutrient solution.  PH is crazy and swings over night.  Good luck keeping up with PH.
